Sinovac COVID-19 Vaccine Trial on South Africa’s Children
Sinovac Biotech has started a global COVID-19 vaccine trial on 14 000 babies, children and adolescents; 2 000 of these participants will come from South Africa.
The study will evaluate the efficacy, immunogenicity, and safety of the CoronaVac vaccine on children aged between six months and 17 years old.

Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has been approved for use on children in South Africa
In order to boost South Africa’s immunisation programme, the SA Health Products Authority (Sahpra) has approved the use of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine on children aged 12 and older.
On 12 September, Sahpra confirmed that the decision followed reviews of updated safety and efficacy information and doesn’t translate into a procurement decision.
