A few pills a day could now keep severe COVID away
As scientists continue to make more discoveries to combat COVID-19 South Africa's Health Regulator has authorised the use of Merck's COVID-19 treatment pill, Lagevrio (also known as molnupiravir), making it the first oral mechanism against COVID-19 to be approved in SA.
Molnupiravir was originally developed by pharmaceutical company Merck and previously received emergency approval for use in Covid patients in the US and UK, according to reporting by Bhekisisa and has proven that it can lessen the chances of someone ending up in the hospital from
COVID-19.
According to reports on News24, A full course of 40 Merck’s molnupiravir tablets will retail at R7.50.
