Can having the COVID-19 vaccine give you COVID-19 or cause you to test positive?
The vaccine is derived from a small non-replicating portion of the viral protein that cannot be picked up by a PCR or antigen test. This means that having the COVID-19 vaccine CANNOT cause a positive test result.

How to protect the unvaccinated?
As you may already know, vaccines are available for over 18-year-olds from 1 September 2021, and we await trials to conclude from those younger than 16 years-old. While we wait for the full population to get vaccinated, what can we do to protect the unvaccinated:
- Register and get the vaccine ourselves to prevent getting and spreading COVID-19
- Wear our masks
- Practice social distancing
- Choose safer activities such as staying at home or only attending outdoor venues where you can practice social distancing

Benefits of Having the COVID-19 Vaccine
The aim of the vaccine is to reduce the risk of developing the illness, the severity of symptoms and the need for hospitilisation.
Getting vaccinated also protects the people around you – if you are protected, you are less likely to spread it.
