Kaelo
Health: COVID-19 Vaccine
Dear Valued Intermediary,
Kaelo will fund all qualifying Policyholders and their Dependants for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Our range of data allows us to determine who needs the vaccine most and helps ensure that those who need it most, get it first. This is in line with the government rollout plan.
Through our Prime Cure network, one of South Africa’s largest National Primary Healthcare networks, and our various touchpoints, we believe we are in a strong position to distribute the vaccine to our Policyholders and their
Dependants.
In addition to our Prime Cure network, our Kaelo Clinics are in the process of being registered to administer the vaccine.
Kaelo is committed to giving you information on the latest COVID-19 vaccination rollout as it becomes available:
As of 23 March, 206 563 healthcare workers have been vaccinated with an estimated 900 000 to 1.5 million needed in phase 1. The first quarter of this year has seen 500 000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson trial vaccine
being made available which will be complete by the end of April.
In quarter 2, we can expect to see 600 000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arriving in early April and 2.8 million of the Johnson and Johnson commercial dose to arrive in early May. Another 5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine are
expected but a time period has not been determined. The estimated population of healthcare workers (phase 1) is 1.5 million people while the phase two population (elderly, essential workers and chronic disease patients) is estimated at 16.5 million people. Based on the expected stock, phase 1 will be complete, however, there is limited stock available for phase 2. Therefore, it has been proposed that the elderly are prioritized in phase 2 due to flu season and expected third wave in that
period.
While we await Government to complete clinical trials and provide further updates, stay informed on why it is important for your employees to get vaccinated.
